What is a good strategy for creating and remembering my Master Password?

Given how important your Master Password is, it is critical that you make it complex (at least 8 characters with a combination of lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers and special characters) and not use it on any other site or app.

It is really important that you not forget it so you don’t have to reset it and consequently lose your sensitive information or files. We never recommend storing your Master Password in your browser. Here are a few suggested strategies:

  1. Memorize it. If you use TeamData to manage other passwords, you’ll never have to memorize another password – only your Master Password.
  1. Add your Master Password to your TeamData account and share it with a password buddy (i.e., someone you would trust with all the information in your TeamData account).
  1. Take a sentence and turn it into a password, as recommended by security expert Bruce Schneier.

The sentence can be anything personal and memorable for you. Take the words from the sentence, then abbreviate and combine them in unique ways to form a password. Here are four sample sentences:

WOO!TPwontSB = Woohoo! The Packers won the Super Bowl!

PPupmoarT@O@tgs = Please pick up more Toasty O's at the grocery store.

1tubuupshhh…imj = I tuck button-up shirts into my jeans.

W?ow?imp::ohth3r = Where oh where is my pear? Oh, there.
